Tarragona
Tarragona è una cittadina di circa 120000 abitanti, capoluogo dell'omonima provincia, posta a sud di Barcellona, nella regione spagnola della Catalogna.
Anticamente, col nome di Tarraco, era la capitale dei domini romani in Spagna, e della dominazione romana rimangono importanti resti quali il teatro, l'acquedotto, il foro, il circo, e così via... Ma le attrattive storico-culturali della città sono anche altre, a partire dalla bellissima cattedrale, dall'antico quartiere medievale, dai musei e dalle tradizioni tipiche della Catalogna.
Inoltre, la posizione è ideale, per la vicinanza con la meravigliosa metropoli di Barcellona, e per la collocazione sulla costa (Costa Daurada), che consente generalmente di frequentare le spiagge sin da marzo-aprile.

Capital of the "Costa Daurada" or Golden Coast, Tarragona is a city that is open to the sea, with a seaport that is among the most important on the Mediterranean as well as a large fishing port.
Its 15 km of coastline boast long beaches: "Milagro", "Rabassada", "Sabinosa" and "Playa Larga", all with fine sand and smoothly sloping into the sea, with maravellous tiny coves sheltered by rocky outcroppings and dotted by green Mediterranean pines groves. Noteworthy among these coves are: "Capellans", "Tamarit", "La Mora", "Arboç" and "Calabecs". |
A city with a true maritime vocation, blessed with such a mild and pleasant climate, is ideal for the practice of all sports, especially water sports: sailing, windsurfing, rowing, waterskiing, scuba-diving...the facilities and equipment for all these available at the City's Nautical Club or the Maritime Club, located on Playa Larga.

Tarragona´s "Fiestas" begin in January with the
"Tres Tombs", a spectacular display of horses and carriages. The Carnival paves
the way towards Holy Week, a solemn religious manifestation, whose Good Friday procession
is held amongst the most important in all of Spain. Saint George's day (April 23rd) and Corpus Christi are the prelude to the summer festivals of Midsummer's Day (June 24th), the maritime festivals of Sant Pere (Saint Peter's Day, June 29th) or the Mare de Déu del Carme (July 16th), and the Fireworks Competition (July) and The Summer Festival at the "Camp de Mart" Auditorium. |
"Sant Magí" is held on August 18th. But Tarragona's biggest festival is on September 23rd, when the city regales its patron saint, Santa Tecla. During the days leading up to the big bash, the entire city - inhabitants and visitors alike - fills the streets to enjoy the "Diables", the figures of the "Bestiari Medieval", the "Dwarfs and Giants", the "Colles Castelleres" (human pyramids), the "Balls de Bastons" and the "Balls de Dames i Vells", among many other attractions. |
Come Christmastime, the city lights up. On December 31st. the "Home dels Nassos" comes out, and the "Three King's Cavalcade" in early January closes the holiday season
Tarragona is a renowned home of "Castellers"
competition (the only one of its kind) is organized at the city's bullring, drawing
throngs of avid spectators.
A maritime and fishing city, Tarragona, capital of a province graced with excellent wines,
also boasts a wonderful cuisine based on the riches of the sea which are daily offered in
public auction at the Serrallo maritime district. "Romesco" and
"Rossejat" are among the typical maritime dishes which cannot go without
tasting, which visitors can find in any of the city's numerous restaurants.
Tarragona has become an important and prosperous commercial hub, with modern establishment
offering visitors the possibility of a selective and a pleasant shopping experience.
Shopping in its pedestrian-only shopping districts becomes a pleasant stroll through a
city which is full of light.

Les festes de Tarragona comencen el gener amb els Tres Tombs,
una exhibició de cavalls i carruatges. El Carnaval dóna pas a la Setmana Santa,
manifestació religiosa de gran solemnitat. La processó dels Divendres Sant és
considerada com una de les més importants d'Espanya. Sant Jordi (23 abril) i el Corpus preludien les festes estivals de sant Joan (24 de juny), les marines de Sant Pere (29 de juny) i la mare de Déu del Carme (16 de juliol) i els Festivals d'Estiu a l'Auditori del Camp de Mart. |
El 19 d'agost se celebra Sant Magí, però és el 23 de setembre quan Tarragona celebra la seva festa gran, Santa Tecla. Durant Aquests dies, la ciutat s'aboca al carrer per gaudir amb els Diables, les figures del Bestiari Medieval, els Nans i Gegants, les colles castelleres, el Ball de Bastons i el de Dames i Vells, entre molts d'altres. |
Per Nadal la ciutat s'il.lumina. El dia 31 de desembre surt l'Home dels Nassos i la cavalcada de reis clou el cicle nadalenc.
Tarragona és una plaça castellera de renom, amb quatre colles
castelleres. Cada dos anys s'organitza a la Plaça de Braus un concurs casteller únic al
món, que convoca milers de seguidors.
Ciutat marinera i pescadora situada en terres de bon vi, Tarragona ofereix una cuina
popular basada principalment en els fruits que li dona la mar, i que diarament són oferts
al ciutada en subhasta pública el barri mariner del Serrallo. Així, és obligat
assaborir el romesco o l'arrossejat, menjars típics mariners, però que el visitant pot
trobar a qualsevol restaurant entre els molts que hi ha a la ciutat.
Tarragona s´ha transformat en un important i pròsper centre comercial, els seus moderns
establiments ofereixen a l visitant la possibilitat d'una compra selectiva i amena. Anar
de compres per les seves zones peatonals o comercials, es transforma en un agradable
passeig per una ciutat plena de llum.
Tarragona és, finalment una ciutat oberta que us espera i de la qual els romans ja deien : "... la ciutat m'ha encantat amb la seva hospitalitat, crec que és el més agradable lloc per al descans. Els seus habitants, honrats, amables i educats, no s'abracen de seguida al coll dels visitants, primer els proven per a, després, acollir-los hospitalàriament".
